The family of the Burgio delle Gazzère counts, owners of the Poggio Allegro estate and the baglio of the same name, has its origins way back in 1046, when the emir Ackmeth, who converted to the Christian faith and married the Norman princess Aldegonda D'Altavilla, took the name of Roberto I, lord of Burgio, a fortified city, which he chose as his home.
Always winemakers, in the last century they produced wines and Marsala in the three family factories, in the large factory in Mazara and in that of San Lorenzo ai Colli in Palermo. Currently Count Aurelio Burgio runs the company with approximately 70 hectares of vineyards, which includes a farmhouse with a park of approximately 11 hectares.
